In this study on learning the semantics of five modals, the chief objectives were to ascertain whether the learners preferred, when given the choice, a explicitly given instruction or a deductive approach, and which of the two practices helped L2 acquisition better with an economy of materials, e.g. in accelerating it, in raising awareness, and in increasing accuracy, thus providing potentially useful information for teachers and materials writers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><b>Resumen<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">El presente trabajo muestra los resultados de un proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n acci\u00f3n cuyo fin consist\u00eda en recabar datos sobre el papel del aprendizaje deductivo de la gram\u00e1tica en la adquisici\u00f3n de idiomas. El objetivo principal del estudio era determinar las preferencias del alumnado por una ense\u00f1anza expl\u00edcita o bien por un enfoque deductivo con econom\u00eda de materiales, y cu\u00e1l de ellas mejoraba la adquisici\u00f3n de la L2 aceler\u00e1ndola, despertando el aprendizaje e incrementando la precisi\u00f3n.
